CHISIG Mail Usage Guidelines
These usage guidelines refer to CHISIG Mail, the mailing list which receives messages posted to chisigmail@chisig.org
Responsibility/Use
This mailing list is the responsibility of CHISIG - an Australian not-for-profit association of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) practitioners, researchers and students. Anyone with an interest in HCI is welcome to subscribe and post messages - these will be moderated by the CHISIG Mail moderator.
Purpose/Message Content
The primary purpose of CHISIG Mail is to provide a place for people interested in HCI to announce HCI-related news and events. Suggestions for suitable postings include:
- Announcements of events such as seminars, training courses and conferences
- Calls for papers to HCI related conferences
- Job vacancy postings are welcome, but please do not repeatedly announce the same position.
If you run frequent training courses, rather than post a message for each event, we would prefer you to post a summary announcement and provide a website address where more detail can be obtained.
We would prefer people to refrain from posting their Curriculum Vitae or messages announcing their availability for work.
If you wish to participate in general discussions, please visit the CHISIG Forums, as we wish to keep traffic on CHISIG mail to a minumum.
Rules/Tips for Posting Messages
Please remember the following:
- Although an Australian list, some of our recipients may be overseas. Always clearly identify the state in which your event is occurring.
- Do not send attachments to CHISIG Mail. Some of our members have slow modem connections and use technologies other than Windows-based PCs. Further, this drastically reduces the risk of viruses. Please use a text message directing people to a website for more information.
- It is better that you post a message yourself rather than asking someone (eg a committee member) to post it on your behalf. Responses are often sent directly to the person who posted the message, so it extra time and effort is required to re-route messages.
Questions/Help
If you are not sure whether something is appropriate to post, please check with the moderator by sending email to moderator@chisig.org.
If you have questions about technical issues related to the list please contact the CHISIG webmaster by sending email to webmaster@chisig.org.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who else is subscribed to CHISIG Mail?
In order to reduce "spamming" of our members, we will never disclose the email address of anyone subscribed to CHISIG Mail.
How do I change/update my CHISIG Mail email address?
Just go to the chisigmail subscription page.
Unsubscribe from CHISIG Mail using your old address and re-subscribe using your new email address. Ensure you confirm both unsubscribe and subscribe requests that you receive.
It is important to note that your Chisig Mail subscription is separate to your HFESA membership account. If you wish to change your CHISIG email preference on the HFESA membership profile, this must be managed independently via the member profile form.
Does changing my CHISIG Mail email address also update my CHISIG membership email address?
No. At present the two are not linked. Please use the HFESA member profile form to update your membership email address. Please do not send CHISIG Mail email address updates to the CHISIG membership officer, or membership address updates to the webmaster. We are working towards having this administration centralised, however until this happens two separate updates are required.
Can I use multiple email addresses? That is, can I have multiple subscriptions (for example, home and work)?
Yes, simply subscribe to CHISIG Mail using the different addresses.
Will sending a message to CHISIG Mail go to all CHISIG Members?
No. CHISIG Mail is a public opt-in list. Some subscribers are not CHISIG members and some CHISIG members do not subscribe to CHISIG Mail.
I cannot confirm my subscribe/unsubscribe request using the "Reply" confirmation request that CHISIG Mail sends. What's wrong, and how can I confirm my subscription request?
Some I.S.P/Mail servers do not allow the use of the "Reply" confirmation that CHISIG Mail sends. If this applies to you, send your subscription request to the webmaster at webmaster@chisig.org. You will be sent a manual confirmation request from the webmaster. Reply to this email to confirm your subscription.
