Ergonomists/Human factors specialists can assist design teams in creating objects and jobs that take human capabilities and limitations into account. They can provide advice on how to change jobs and designs that are causing problems for people.

Human factors/ergonomics can be applied at any time in the workplace. Often simple modifications to work methods, equipment or layout can yield surprisingly large dividends to both management and employees:

• in the prevention of occupational ill-health and injury
• by raising productivity and increasing worker comfort and morale
• as an aid to management decision making, and
• by improving and maintaining good industrial relations
