The Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA) is the national organisation run by ergonomists to promote ergonomics in Australia and is a federated member of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), which is the peak international body of professional ergonomics and human factors organisations.

The Society has a strict Code of Practice to which practitioners must adhere.
The HFESA has a central secretariat in Sydney (see HFESA Federal Secretariat) that handles general administration and finances for the federal board and state branches (State branches). The branches in each state holds regular scientific meetings; for details go to the Calendar.
There is provision for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to allow a societal focus on a particular issue. A SIG is a national group interested in a particular area of ergonomics. Currently there is one active SIG:
The society presents 7 national awards that reflect outstanding achievement by individuals or groups for service to the Society and the ergonomics profession as well as to the research and application of ergonomics in Australia (see Awards). CHISIG presents one award (see Gitte Lindgaard Award).
The Professional Affairs Board (PAB) administers the certification and affairs of Certified Professional Ergonomists.
The HFESA produces a quarterly publication, Ergonomics Australia; past issues are available for download.
