SUMMARY:Development of International Standard IEC
DESCRIPTION:A Standard for Human Dependability: Will it Improve Human facto
rs in the Workplace?\n\nEvent Synopsis: We all understand 'dependability
’ when it relates to vehicles and other machines\, but can ‘dependabil
ity’ apply to humans? Can we write a\nstandard for human dependability t
hat would assist managers\, engineers\, and organisations to improve the h
uman factors in their workplaces? After four years of\ndevelopment\, IEC 6
2508 Guidance on Human Aspects of Dependability has been submitted for int
ernational committee approval. This presentation will review the journey\n
of revising the original version \, which overly focussed on human error\,
to a guide for promoting human factors in the workplace. The ultimate cha
llenge is to provide\na practical standard\, which details the support tha
t individuals and teams need to work ‘dependably.’\n\nOur Presenter:\n
\n\nDr Ari Antonovsky was initially trained as a Materials Engineer\, befo
re progressing into project work in various Reliability Engineering roles\
n\nin the mining industry in Australia and Indonesia. Eventually\, it bec
ame clear that reliability\, especially among maintenance and operations\n
\ncrews\, was concerned with improving human and organisational factors\,
rather than the technology employed. This resulted in a PhD in\nPsychology
at Curtin University\, based on the human factors that influence outcomes
in petroleum production facilities. During the past\nseveral years\, he h
as conducted research projects at UWA investigating the human /systems int
erfaces on RAN vessels\, including the Collins\nsubmarines. Ari is an HFES
A Certified Professional Ergonomist\, and is the Project Leader for an int
ernational standard on human\ndependability (IEC 62508).\n\nWhere: Zoom -
