SUMMARY:HFESA NSW Ergo Big Night Out 21 May 2019
DESCRIPTION:HFESA NSW Ergo Big Night Out - International Speaker Professor
Bernard Martin - "Effects of Exposure to Vibration"\n\nTuesday 21 May 20
19 from 6.00pm\n\nBernard Martin is a professor in the Department of Indus
trial and Operation engineering at the University of Michigan. He also hol
ds a research fellow appointment in the School of Kinesiology and is an af
filiate faculty of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.\nHe has an en
gineering degree in applied physics and electrical engineering from the Ec
ole Nationale Supérieure de Physique (Marseille\, France)\, a PhD in Bioe
ngineering and a Doctorate Es Science from the Université de Provence (Ma
rseille\, France). He was a scientist at the National Research Institute f
or Safety and Health in France before joining the University of Michigan i
n 1990.\nHe teaches courses in ergonomics\, human performance and engineer
ing systems and neurosensory systems. His research is centered on the stud
y of human sensorimotor control systems and the application of such knowle
dge to the fields of human performance\, the ergonomic design of human-mac
hine interactions and rehabilitation. Neurophysiological\, behavioral\, bi
omechanical and modeling approaches are used as complementary means to inv
estigate the role of sensory information in the control and regulation of
sensorimotor activities. His current research includes the understanding o
f sensory and motor asymmetries as a function of hand dominance\, gender a
nd stroke\, upper body proprioception and the application of vibrotactile
stimulation to postural stability\, slip and trip recovery and guidance of
low vision patients for rehabilitation purposes\, the design of touch scr
eens and computer interfaces\, the neurophysiological mechanisms underlyin
g the effects of hand arm and whole body vibration on movement and their c
ontribution to MSDs\, enhancement of sensory information to improve perfor
 mances.\n\nTime\n6pm Harpoon Harrys for Networking\n7pm Presentation\n\nWe
