SUMMARY:PD Event : Why we need to change risk management approaches for mus
 culoskeletal disorders: The role of an ergonomist!
DESCRIPTION:Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the largest Occupational H
 ealth and Safety (OHS) problem in many countries\, including Australia whe
 re their annual total costs are calculated to be over $24 billion. There i
 s now robust evidence from a large body of peer-reviewed research\, includ
 ing both epidemiological and intervention studies\, that a diverse range o
 f work-related psychosocial hazards affect MSD risk but this is not being 
 translated into contemporary risk management approaches.\n\nThis presentat
 ion will provide an overview of the current research on MSD aetiology and 
 insights from a range of projects based in Australian workplaces which hav
 e underpinned the development of A Participative Hazard identification and
  Risk Management (APHIRM) toolkit to address these important gaps.\n\nThe 
 role of the ergonomist in MSD risk management will be explored and opportu
 nities for discussion will be provided.\n\n\n\nPresented by Associate Prof
