May continues to be an active month for HFESA, with valuable professional development opportunities, important governance activity, and opportunities to recognise excellence and long standing contribution within our profession.

Extraordinary General Meeting – 28 May 2026

The Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to vote for the incoming President and incoming Treasurer of HFESA was rescheduled to Thursday 28 May 2026.  We ask all members to attend or nominate a proxy for this important vote. Nominees for incoming President and incoming Treasurer are on our website along with information about the positions and voting process.  

The EGM will be held via Zoom from 19:00 to 20:00 AEST.

Members who can’t attend can arrange a proxy using the link below (submit by 17:00 AEST on Tuesday 26 May 2026).

Call for submissions for our 2026 conference closing soon!

The 2026 HFESA conference in Sydney this Nov/Dec is shaping up to be an incredible event, with keynotes recently announced and social events being planned. Researchers, practitioners and students can submit an abstract for an oral presentation, lightening talk or workshop – The program is designed to balance academic rigor with practical application.  

Are you thinking “I don’t have enough research…?” then think again! Your professional experience is valid, valuable, and needed. So don’t wait – submit your 300-word abstract below by 15 May to be part of this amazing event.

Call for Nominations — Alan Welford Award (2026)

Have you published a paper on a human factors and ergonomics topic published in a peer reviewed journal within the previous two calendar years? You may be eligible for an Alan Welford Award (if at least one of the authors is an HFESA member).

This award is offered every two years and nominees are assessed on the intrinsic merit of the paper and its readability for the intended audience. Recipients will receive a certificate recognising their achievement.

Nominees can be sent to Jacqui at secretariat@ergonomics.org.au to nominate a member to the Honours and Awards committee.

Call for Nominations — HFESA Fellowship

HFESA is seeking nominations for Fellowship, recognising outstanding contribution to the Society and the human factors and ergonomics profession over at least ten years. Fellowship is awarded to members in good standing, acknowledging sustained leadership, service, and impact, and is conferred through a membership certificate recognising the recipient as a Fellow of HFESA.

IEA/Kingfar Award and IEA/Tsinghua Award 2026 applications now open

Are you researching an emerging area on HFE or issues affecting developing countries? The IEA/Kingfar Award is given annually to early career professionals to promote and reward high-quality original research and applications on new and emerging HFE issues or issues specifically related to industrially developing countries, as well as to promote a career path in HFE.

Last year, HFESA member Dr Adeola Bamgboje-Ayodele won an IEA/Kingfar Award for her research into virtual triage systems.
