Inquiry into Road Safety – Parliament of Australia

Australian Parliament House of Representatives Joint Select Committee Inquiry on Road Safety

The HFESA put a submission into the inquiry in September 2021 with the goal of promoting integration of Human Factors and Human Centred Design into Road Safety at all levels, from design through to legislation.

We were very pleased to receive an invitation to give evidence at the inquiry and this occurred last Thursday. It was a great privilege for myself as President and the Emeritus Professors, Ann Williamson and Mike Regan to give evidence to the inquiry. Our position was well received and the inquiry would like to engage with us further and commented that they could not understand why such critical input was not already included at this level.

A special thanks to Anne and Mike for their efforts, in firstly engaging to meet the tight deadline for preparing the submission and secondly for giving evidence.  Thanks also to Stephen Hehir for identifying the opportunity to submit to the inquiry.

Engaging at this level is exactly what we should be doing as the Peak Body in Human Factors in Australia and it can only present opportunities to the HFESA and our members.
